At our September Meeting we worked on learning how to make Quilt
Squares for the Breast Cancer Awareness Quilt.  Patterns were given
out for the heart squares and each participant started their square.

Breast Cancer Awareness Earring Drive:
The Rutherford County Bead Society is sponsoring an Earring Drive. A few
months ago Kelly had a customer who came into the store and a had the
following great idea but she wanted us to do this for Cleveland County.  As
a Bead Society we discussed the idea but think we need to work on helping
women in our community and then branch out to other communities.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is coming up and what we would like to
do is to ask people to make a pair of earrings with a Breast Cancer
Awareness Theme and donate them to the Bead Society.  We have a goal of
50 pairs of earrings that we would like to collect.  Once they are all
collected then the Bead Society will then donate them to the Look Good
Feel Good Program.  This is a program that helps women with cancer look
their best!  Sometimes a small thing like earrings can make us feel so much
better so we want to help women in our community with Breast Cancer Feel
Better!  Please bring all earrings to Off The Beaded Path in Forest City.
They will have a box set up in the store so that you can drop them off. We
would like to exceed our goal! Any earring beyond 50 pairs will then be
donated to the Cleveland County Look Good Feel Good Program.   Please
help us meeting and exceed our goal!

Cancer Awareness Beaded Quilt:
Jeanette Shanigan of  http://shanigansbeadshenanigans.homestead.com/
asks beaders all over the world every year to stitch squares with a theme
and donate them to her.  Once all squares are received, she stitches them
together and makes them into a quilt.  Once quilts are complete she then
auctions them off at the Bead and Button show in Milwilkee and all money
raised goes to Cancer Research.  Jeanette has released the theme of the
quilt for 2009 and it is "Bead Artists have the HEART to take on Breast
Cancer." If you go to her website she has some patterns that you can print
off.  We have a goal of 75 bead squares that we would like to send her in
April of 2009.  As a group we have a goal to #1 learn how to make the
squares at the September meeting.  #2 is that we are challenging all of our
members to make a square a month until April. And,  #3 is to meet and
possibly surpass our goal of 75 squares.  To do this we need your help.  The
Bead Society is challenging the Customers of Off The Beaded Path to make
squares to that we can surpass our goal!  You can go to Jeanettes website
listed above to print off the square patterns.  If you need help learning how
to make them then please come to our next meeting in September!  Once
you have a square complete simply drop it by Off The Beaded Path.  Kelly
will be keeping a running total of how many quilt squares we have and she
will be updating this page every week on our progress.  PLEASE HELP US
AND GET THE WORD OUT!
