All beads, stringing materials, findings, needles, and bead mats for your classes will be provided for you. You will be able to take all of these things home with you at the end of the retreat. If you need light or magnification assistance, please bring these with you as there will be plenty of room to plug things in. Also, be sure to bring a good pair of scissors or cutters.
Please be aware that this is an intermediate to advanced based bead retreat and you MUST know how to do Cubic Right-Angle Weave and regular Right-Angle Weave to take this retreat. These stitches will not be taught at the retreat, so you will need to know how to do them before the start of the retreat.
What to expect at the retreat
Each day of the retreat we will meet at 9:00am at 106 East Main Street in Forest City. This is the Downtown Meetings Building which is adjacent to the fountain in the middle of town. We will start promptly at 9:00am. If you are late please be patient as we will get you started at the first break in the morning. We will be working from 9:00-11:30. We will break for lunch from 11:30-1:00. There are several great restaurants in downtown Forest City that you can walk to or there are lots of fast food places a short drive away. At the retreat you will be given a list of recommend restaurants. After lunch we will continue to work from 1:00-5:00. Although we plan to be at the retreat until 5:00pm each day, we also understand that this is your vacation. If you want to leave early, please feel free to.
In middle April or early May students will be emailed a second retreat form. This from will have color options for each project. Please make sure to fill out the options ASAP and let us know which color combinations you would like for each project. You can email us back your choices or call us with the choices.
In this retreat students will be sent out a tube of beads a few months prior to the retreat to complete some homework before class starts. Students will be asked to make two lengths of CRAW that are 94 boxes long. Please leave working thread on the ends of the lengths of rope when complete!
Currently here is what I have planned for each day of the retreat:
Thursday Morning Session – This morning we will be working on learning how to encase a 18mm Swarovski Tear Drop. You will receive two tear drops and have the option of making them into a pair of earrings or two pendants.
Thursday Afternoon Session – In our afternoon session we will be working on making a brand- new ring design.
Friday Morning Session – In this session we will start working on the Never Too Late Necklace. Students will be learning how to make their oval CRAW shapes. Students will be learning how to make 3 size oval shapes.
Friday Afternoon Session – This afternoon students will learn how to make the clasp part of the Never Too Late Necklace. As students work on their clasp Kelly and her assistant will come around and help students complete the tubes of CRAW that they were sent as home work. These tubes will make up the sides of the necklace.
Saturday Morning Session – In our final session together I will be showing students how to make the connection strips and embellish them to connect the oval components.
Please understand that, depending on the speed and knowledge of the beader, most students will not finish their necklace at the retreat. Many of you will come very close to completing the project though! Please know that you will leave with all the knowledge needed to complete your necklace. You will also leave with printed step by step instructions for all projects made at the retreat.
